Young ICCA hosted an arbitration skills training workshop in Nairobi, Kenya on 17 September 2015. This is the first such event ever to be held in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event was sponsored by Anjarwalla & Khanna (A&K) and organized by members of a Steering Committee that included Damien Nyer, Young ICCA Co-Chair, Tolu Obamuroh, Luisa H. Cetina of A&K, and Rubin Mukkam-Owuor of JMiles & Co. The workshop entitled “The Role of Local Counsel in International Arbitration,” was primarily designed for junior practitioners. Professor Albert van den Berg, President of ICCA, was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included Njeri Kariuki (Advocate & Chartered Arbitrator, Founder of Njeri Kariuki Advocate), Sean Omondi (Partner, Coulson Harney Advocates), Aisha Abdallah(Partner, Anjarwalla & Khanna), Noella Lubano (Partner, Oraro & Company Advocates), and Nikhil Desai (Senior Associate, JMiles & Co.). The workshop was attended by 40 participants representing lawyers from other law firms and university students.
