ALN is delighted to share with you the July 2017 edition of Legal Notes, a publication that seeks to inform our clients of salient legal and business issues in various African jurisdictions.
The last twelve months have been actioned-packed across the world – Brexit, Trump, North Korea’s belligerence, polarising elections and escalating warfare in South Sudan, Syria and Iraq. In some parts of the West, borders are hardening, xenophobia is growing and nationalism is now mainstream. In short, the world is rapidly changing. On a superficial view, these changes in the world outlook of some of Africa’s biggest investment partners could signal tough times ahead for Africa. However, as you will see from this edition of Legal Notes, ALN firms are much more optimistic and confident that Africa actually holds its future prosperity largely in its own hands. Progress is being made all over the continent and for every bad news story overseas there is a good news story in Africa. If you are an international investor, or a local African country looking to expand, the opportunities within Africa are still too important to ignore.
In our editorial feature article, ‘Taking Stock’, we ask five of the continent’s leading lawyers to consider the impact on Africa of the ongoing disruption in the West. They provide some very candid thoughts on the impact this disruption will have (or not have) in their jurisdictions and what their country is doing to advance its economic, social and political development agenda.
We are also delighted to feature investment insights from Mr Jayakrishnan Gopalakrishnan, Group Director – Middle East and Africa Group at International Enterprise Singapore, Singapore’s foreign investment and partnering arm, along with interesting articles from around the ALN network.
Please take this opportunity to further explore the Africa-wide insights covered, and do not hesitate to contact the Legal Notes Editorial Team (email@example.com) should you have any questions or specific areas of interest.
