Dr. Cheick Modibo Diarra

ALN Chairman

Dr Diarra is a Malian astrophysicist, businessman, and politician. He was the Prime Minister of Mali from April to December 2012 and the chairman of Microsoft Africa from 2006 until 2011. He is a goodwill ambassador for UNESCO and also served as the CEO of the African Virtual University, based in Kenya, in 2002 – 2003.

In 1984, Dr Diarra joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California (a division of NASA). There he participated in various missions: Magellan to Venus, Ulysses to the Sun’s poles, Galileo to Jupiter and the Mars Observer and Mars Pathfinder. He later headed NASA’s Mars Outreach Program.

He studied mathematics, physics and analytic mechanics at the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie and then at the Ecole Centrale – both in Paris. Following these, he completed a Masters in Aerospace Engineering at Howard University in Washington D.C.  In his distinguished career, Dr Diarra has received various honors and decorations: the African Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, the World Bank’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science and the Africa-America Institute Award for Excellence in Science (for inspiring youth worldwide to explore the cosmos), Commandeur de l’Ordre de l’Education Nationale in Gabon, Commandeur de l’Ordre du Merite du Lion in Senegal, Commandeur de l’Ordre National in Mali, Commandeur de l’Ordre du Merite Nationale in Cote d’Ivoire, Commandeur dans l’ordre des Arts, des Lettres, et de la Communication in Burkina Faso.

ALN Head of Operations

Christine provides Operational Improvement Support to ALN Member firms via ALN’s Practice Management and Integration (PMI) programme. Christine has over 9 years’ experience in Business Management. Prior to joining ALN, Christine worked as a project and change manager for the Maersk group of companies in the UK and Netherlands where she managed global projects across 65 countries,  and as a Business Process Improvement Manager for LV=, a leading insurance company in the UK with a focus on process and operational efficiency.

Christine holds an LLB from the University of Nairobi and is a qualified advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She also has an MSC in Business Management, is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya CPA (K) and is a PRINCE 2 Practitioner.

Glenda Benson

Consultant, Integration and Development

Glenda is a qualified lawyer and attained her BA and LLB from the University of Cape Town. Prior to joining ALN, Glenda worked for ENSafrica and Webber Wentzel and before that for a large global law firm in London. Glenda was seconded to the ALN Secretariat as the Country Relations Officer in 2011/2012.

Glenda was previously on the board of the World Services Group – a global membership network whose members are among the top providers of professional business. She also used to Chair the WSG Africa and Middle East Regional Council whose objective is to develop an overall strategy for maximizing business opportunities through cooperation and knowledge exchange. Glenda has also worked alongside key stakeholders at the African Development Bank and the World Bank designing systems to professionally uplift lawyers around the African continent.

Luisa H. Cetina

Head of Business Development, Marketing & Communications, A&K and ALN

Luisa is the Head of Business Development, Marketing & Communications at Anjarwalla & Khanna and ALN. Luisa is responsible for directing the business development and marketing activities of A&K, its affiliated offices in Tanzania (ATZ Law Chambers) and the UAE (AC&H), as well as ALN, including the overall management of strategic and operational marketing and customer relationship activities, planning, coordination and implementation of business plans, and assessment and penetration of new markets.

Prior to joining ALN, Luisa spent almost a decade as a corporate litigator at White & Case in New York.  She earned BCL and LLB law degrees, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree, from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.  Luisa is a member of the New York State Bar.
